At TSPS the Primary School is a child’s entire experience from the moment they first arrive when they are four, to the moment they leave to continue their journey. We follow The National Curriculum for England and Wales in a modified format to take account of UAE Ministry of Education rules. TSPS has developed an enriched curriculum that is relevant and stimulating offering the children a range of experiences and catering for individual learning styles. The curriculum encompasses the Every Child Matters Agenda and promotes opportunities for developing the social and emotional aspects of learning through a Values-based approach.
Our aim is to create curious and active learners and we believe that learning does not stop at the classroom door. We set pupils challenges in realistic contexts to develop skills that will enhance their learning and understanding.
The national curriculum sets out the programmes of study and attainment targets for all subjects at all 4 key stages.
Key Stage 1 Overview:
In Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) the emphasis is on developing good literacy and numeracy skills whilst learning about science, technology , countries, and different periods of the world. Regular Formative Assessment is carried out by class teachers with objectives and key skills tracked in reading, writing, and mathematics. We complete phonics screening so we can identify gaps in the children’s phonics knowledge early as these are the building blocks to reading.
Key Stage 2 Overview:
In Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6) children develop their skills further, refining their use of research and independent enquiry, and applying what they know into less familiar contexts. In addition, all children are expected to learn French following the MFL curriculum.
Throughout KS 2, children are encouraged to engage in a purposeful and creative way in their learning. Children are invited to share work they have completed at home to compliment and extend the learning journey beyond the classroom. Every child will be encouraged and supported to build on prior learning and further extend the knowledge gained in Key Stage One. This may include additional support for children who are still developing the basic skills and extension tasks for children who are working beyond age related expectations.
