Sixth Form

Sixth Form

At The Sheffield Private School (TSPS), Key Stage 5 marks an exciting and transformative stage of education. Students transition to Year 12 and embark on a personalised journey in Post-16 education, commonly known as Sixth Form in the British system.

The Key Stage 5 curriculum focuses on developing essential skills such as communication, critical thinking, independence, physical development, and self-care. Our aim is to prepare students for life beyond school, equipping them to become resilient, ambitious individuals who embrace healthy and fulfilling lifestyles.

A Progressive and Tailored Approach

The KS5 curriculum builds on the foundations of KS3 and KS4, promoting progression and continuity in learning. It is designed to cater to individual needs, interests, and aspirations, ensuring every student maximises their potential.

The curriculum is:

• Student-Centred: Bespoke planning and delivery tailored to each student’s strengths, needs, and interests.

• Integrated: Skills and knowledge are taught through interdisciplinary approaches, fostering higher-order thinking and real-world application.

• Focused on Independence: Encouraging students to take ownership of their learning and develop essential life skills.

• Real-World Ready: Incorporating experiences such as community visits, vocational skills training, money management, and safe travel to shape aspirations for adulthood.

Academic Pathways

TSPS offers three distinct pathways in Key Stage 5, providing a flexible and diverse curriculum:

Pathway 1 – International AS and A Levels (IAS/IAL) Qualification:

* Students begin Year 12 by selecting four AS Level subjects, completing all associated units and exams in either January or June.

* In Year 13, students continue with three of these subjects, focusing on their chosen areas of interest.

Pathway 2 -BTEC Qualifications-

* Designed to provide practical, work-related skills, BTEC qualifications focus on real-life applications without the need for traditional exams.

* Subjects include Sport, ICT and Business assessed through engaging and practical methods.

Pathway 3 – Blended Curriculum.

* A combination of AS/A Level subjects and BTEC courses, allowing students to tailor their education to suit their interests and career goals.

Additional Opportunities

Students are required to select four subjects in order of preference, with placement based on meeting entry requirements. Beyond academics, students participate in:

• Community Service Programme

• Work Experience (Interna/ External)

• University visits

• Online Courses to enhance life skills and broaden their learning experience.

Our Key Stage 5 programme prepares students for further education or careers and for life, ensuring they graduate as confident, independent, and capable global citizens.
